What is a Conservative

So I get to rant a little.

Does anyone even know what a Conservative is anymore?

Automatically a Republican? Nope. Truth is, most true conservatives are Independents and didn't bother voting in the last three elections. Who cares what the exit polls say about political parties.

You cannot even find 10 Republicans, let alone 10 Democrats who can actually define Conservatism anymore. No, we have disappeared.

We let Michael Savage, Ann Coultor or Sean Hannity define who we are and what we believe. And they are three of the most hateful Christian people you will ever meet in your life! Practice what you preach does not seem to apply to those of the opposite political party.

Bill O'Reilly comes pretty close to "getting it." He is a well educated man who stands up for what he believes, and like him or not, he at least gives every side a chance and then makes his decision on what he thinks (wow, there's a thought) is the right position for the betterment of America.

Isn't that what politics is supposed to be about anyway? In America's case, two political parties who think their ideas are best for America. But the GOP and Democratic Caucus have become living creatures that are out to serve themselves and greedy individuals grasps for power.

And then came the Independents. We have the whole "tea party" thing that is supposed to get Republicans back towards Conservative roots, but I am not buying it. For one, Republicans and Democrats have switched sides in their ideology the past several decades. If you don't believe that, look at the history books the secular humanists have not changed and look who freed the slaves and who nearly caused another civil war trying to keep black Americans from voting and going to equal schools as white Americans.

So Conservatives are gun-holding, rebel flag waving, anti-abortion zealots who trample on women's rights, want to send all non-white people back to their country of origin, and bomb any country that doesn't sell us cheap oil?

Give me a break. All Democrats are atheists who kill babies for fun in hospitals too. Please.

What happened to the people? You know, those folks that the constitution say rule America? What happened to a man or woman running for office on their own principles rather than what their political parties tell them their principles are?

I have one for you: A very Christian man who thinks that abortion should only be performed if absolutely medically necessary runs for office and then votes to up-hold women's "right" to late term abortion. The same one who said to me that abortion should be available, but as rare as a brain transplant voted to allow viable infants to have holes drilled into their heads after being partially delivered and then declared a fetus.

Why? He would be kicked out of his political party, where he was at that time a very high ranking official, and would lose the backing of a very prominent (and healthy monetary donor) women's rights group.

Or what about the well known Senator from the border state that sees every day the cost of ILLEGAL immigration, yet votes to give them all amnesty without at least checking out who they are first.

Come on, at least ask them their names and run a background check.

Very simply, a Conservative is one who believes that whatever rights, rules, laws, or restrictions not specifically written in the constitution remains with...

hold your breath for this one....

THE PEOPLE.

You know, us. And don't give me that whole "living, breathing" document BS either, or tell me that the majority of the framers were not Christians either. Read the Federalist papers, and all your current debate over the constitution will be settled. You know, those papers written by the framers trying to convince the states (then known as the voters, or better yet, the PEOPLE) that this constitution was different, better than the Articles of Confederation, and worth giving a try.

And one or two about the importance of a Bill of Rights. I think we still have those, but I will have to see if the most recent Patriot Act left them all intact or not.

That is a Conservative. Government is not the answer, the PEOPLE are. The PEOPLE are not the problem in most cases, the Government is. The People could come together and fix Social Security and Immigration (to name a few) in one congressional session.

We would have to ban political parties as George Washington suggested first. More later and even a few suggestions.

Leave me your thoughts on what you believe a true conservative SHOULD be. Not what we are defined as by the media and Republican party.
